Lauren Simmonds - 2022 Award winner

- All day Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th

Artist bio:

Lauren Simmonds’ practice crosses drawing, sculpture, installation, choreography and performance. She often uses her body as a medium to traverse these artforms. Previous works have taken the form of immersive kinetic installations that are part performance, part anthropological study and part sculpture.

Lauren’s most recent large scale sculptural works made during 2020/21 in response to the pandemic are explorations into how she can create tangible and solid works whilst still reflecting on themes of fragility in direct communication with nature. They are made as love letters and tributes to nature and the (universe) witnessed by the sky, birds and passing humans.

She works responsively on site to contextualise and document these works in natural environments to heighten their message and meaning. Her works often remain on location for short periods of time, popping up much like an unfurling flower, and have the ability to be modular and change location, further echoing her interest in highlighting the constant flux of the universe.
