The Hooded Plover has become a local story of environmental destruction and the fight against extinction. Simon’s work pays homage to this survivor.

Simon Normand is a sculptor, printmaker, painter, photographer, author and environmentalist.
For the last 20 years Simon has been working with mob in Arnhem Land mapping song lines to help stop extinction. This is Simon’s first project in Gadubanud (Katubanut) country.
Focussing on the plight of the Hooded Plover, Simon’s large-scale installation for LSB2022 is an embodiment of extinction-in-process of this tiny, yet significant bird indigenous to Lorne and southern Australia.
